LEED Certification and Newfloor Products
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is one of the most widely used international systems for certifying the sustainability of buildings. Developed in the United States, LEED is a classification system that assesses the energy efficiency and environmental footprint of buildings by providing a set of measurement standards to evaluate environmentally sustainable construction.
The LEED criteria were created to achieve the following goals:
Define the concept of a “green building” by establishing a common measurement standard
Promote integrated design practices for the entire building
Recognize leaders in the construction industry committed to environmental responsibility
Encourage competition in the development of green projects, materials, and construction methods
Raise awareness of the benefits of green building
Transform the building market
Maximize profitability while maintaining a focus on global ecological sustainability
Comply with all legal requirements related to construction

EPD stands for Environmental Product Declaration, as defined and regulated by ISO 14025. It is a certified document that reports environmental data related to the product’s life cycle — specifically, the environmental impact of producing a given good or service in terms of resource consumption, emissions generated during production, waste produced, and environmental impact during use and end-of-life disposal. The method used to assess impacts and resources is the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). Therefore, in order to draft an EPD, an LCA calculation must first be conducted. To ensure comparability between EPDs of products with similar functions or characteristics, the LCA must be carried out in the same way — based on a common Product Category Rule (PCR).
Biosafe® is a product certification scheme, applied to buildings and construction materials, accredited by ACCREDIA in accordance with UNI CEI EN ISO/IEC 17065.
The following products were tested in compliance with the Biosafe® protocol through laboratory analyses using test chambers (UNI EN 16000), capable of verifying their emission potential, and through environmental measurements (UNI EN 14412), designed to determine the level of air purification achieved by the products within the spaces where they are used.
The specific analysis and control process undertaken in each of the following cases led these products to obtain the Biosafe® Validation Seal: a guarantee mark for health and indoor living well-being within enclosed environments.
